How to find a book?

The books are sorted in classes by type, topic or genre. You'll find the name of the class on the edge of the shelf. Within a class the books are sorted alphabetically by writer's surname.

Web-Origo database searches are an easy way to find a book if you know something about it, its name, writer or some keyword. Web-Origo is free to use from any internet PC at home, school or library.

And you could always ask the library staff! They will be glad to help you search for books, materials and information and guide you with the Web-Origo and the internet PCs. So ask already!

Library Card

To get your own library card you must fill the Library card request form.  If you are under 15 years old, you'll need a permission from your parent or guardian. You can print out the form, fill it and bring it to the library signed by your parent to receive your very own library card. The first card is completely free of charge.

Never give your library card to anyone else. Your friends can get their own cards too!

Take good care of your library card. If you lose the card, call the library as soon as you can to prevent others from misusing your card. You'll get a new card to replace the lost one, but this time it costs 2 .

Play by the rules and you can borrow all you want from the library and it won't cost you a cent.

Remember the loan periods:

  • Books, comics, recordings 4 weeks
  • Magazines 2 weeks
  • Videos and CD-ROMs 1 week

At the loan desk you are always given a receipt that shows the date when your loans must be returned. Don't forget to keep the receipt. If you haven't finished the book before the loan period ends, you can renew your loan in the library or by phone (tel. 044 417 4424) or through the Internet. Ask for your personal Web password from the information desk.

If you don't remember to return your books on time, we'll send you a notice by post. You will then have to pay an overdue fine.
